Marriage Traditions

Marriage intends adulthood and future parenting, and is thus, the fundamental framework of all societies. However different may be the Marriage Traditions, the end is the same in all societies and religions. It stands for a sort of transition for both the groom and bride into a new ambiance and a new found identity. Globalization and western influence greatly effect in molding many Marriage Traditions of the countries of the eastern world. Legal sanction to marriage is extremely important in most of the societies, nowadays. The influence of technology is also playing a huge role in redefining Marriage Traditions around the world. Despite all this, age old customs and rituals are still prevalent in several societies and religions. Marriage is not only about shopping, feasting and music, it is also about showcasing tradition and culture of one's own identity, to the world.

There are some Traditions of Marriage that have lost their meaning, but people still adhere to them and pay respect to these traditions. It is a question of honor and respect. Many feel that it might not auger well for the newly married couple, if some Marriage Traditions are not followed. No one wants to get involved in such a risk. It is not a question of being superstitious as many who are not superstitious confirm to these rituals and customs.

The basis of the relationship that results out of Marriage is same everywhere, raising a family and commitment towards the spouse. The roles of the husband and the wife is almost similar everywhere. If individuals can fulfill their roles of husband and wife, only then they can ensure the continuity of a particular culture or community. Marriage is considered to be the fundamental structure of society. It is not only about two individuals, but of two families too. Their roles are equally important and significant. Marriage or wedding is a very unique occasion which reflects the beginning of a new relationship, a family and a new life shared with one another. Marriage Traditions are very rich and vibrant among several communities and societies.

From attires and accessories to rituals, the tradition of a particular community is reflected in the Marriage Traditions of that particular society. Western Tradition of Marriage involves the wearing of the white wedding gown by the bride at the time of wedding as it symbolizes virginity and purity. The traditions possess great variety and uniqueness and are worthwhile to watch. The white color suggests virginity and purity and the red color, associated with eastern traditions is symbolical of fertility.

One often witness that rice is thrown at the new groom and bride and it signifies that the couple would never face any want of food and will lead a prosperous and happy life. Western traditions have the bride throwing a bouquet of flowers to maidens attending the wedding. It is believed that the lady who gets hold of the bouquet will soon be married. All these Marriage Traditions reflect the true spirit of Marriage.
